Challenge
The European chemical industry faced a multifaceted challenge due to geopolitical shifts, technological advancements, and regional politics impacting global trade flows. To thrive, the industry needed a cohesive mid-century vision addressing fragmented geopolitics, economic integration, circularity goals, climate change, and digitalization.
Approach
The Delphi Study engaged over 300 experts to explore 32 high-level assumptions affecting the industry's future. This informed an actionable vision statement for 2050 and included fictional "Facets of the Future" to provide provocative perspectives and stimulate dialogue on potential futures.
